What to Expect
Consultation is not therapy, supervision, or coaching. What can you expect during a consultation meeting with me?
1
Personal Consultation
Personal consultation is appropriate for addressing a very specific concern to generate solutions. It's short-term in nature. Consultation may be helpful, for example, in coming up with options to address a new and unfamiliar concern that has arisen for you, or in determining what to try next in addressing more complex or pervasive issues. Consultation may also be used by the consultant and consultee as a first step to determine whether or not to enter into a therapeutic relationship. You will be provided with an opportunity to discuss your situation and issues about which I may have some expertise. I will likely ask clarifying questions to better understand your concerns and to help you discover what approaches best fit for you. I may help you consider a variety of options for responding, and may recommend any number of additional resources to support you (e.g., websites, books, therapeutic modalities, etc.). Consultations are most effective when you take some time to prepare in advance. You'll be asked to identify a) your concerns (the issue you'd like to address), and b) your goals for our time together (what you’d like to accomplish) in preparation for our meeting.

Professional Consultation
Professional consultation is a service I offer to licensed and pre-licensed mental health professionals. The focus in professional consultation is on improving clinical care. I'm familiar with a fairly wide variety of therapeutic modalities and implement many of these in my work with therapy clients. As a clinical consultant, my goal is to help you connect with and expand your own wisdom and ability to work with clients in the ways that fit best for you. I'm not credentialed to provide consultation hours toward certification in any particular therapeutic modality, and I'm not available for clinical supervision. Consultees often find me helpful in getting out of the weeds of diagnosis or protocol driven therapy and into a state of intuitive wisdom and compassion that empowers client driven change.
